The Yuehu section of this river‑channel remediation project is a scenic lake in Ningbo City. It adjoins the city moat to the south, and its water circulation is poor. Water pollution has exceeded the lake’s self‑purification capacity, leading to long‑term sediment accumulation at the bottom and turbid water. Ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, and COD all exceed Class V water quality standards. Consequently, the remediation presents significant challenges. Within the project area, point‑source pollution primarily consists of nutrients entering the channel that, through physical, chemical, and biological processes, gradually settle into the surface layer of the lakebed. The nitrogen and phosphorus accumulated in the bottom sediments can, on the one hand, be directly assimilated by microorganisms, entering the food chain and participating in aquatic ecosystem cycling; on the other hand, under specific physicochemical and environmental conditions, they may be released from the sediments back into the water column, thereby constituting an internal pollution load. In river‑channel remediation, aeration technology addresses the hypoxic conditions caused by pollution by artificially injecting air (or oxygen) into the water body, accelerating re‑oxygenation, raising dissolved oxygen levels, and restoring and enhancing the activity of aerobic microorganisms. This facilitates the degradation of pollutants, helping to ensure that water quality remains compliant with standards over the long term.
