COD degradation of raw landfill leachate

Project Overview:

Leachate from waste contains a complex mixture of pollutants, with extremely high organic matter concentrations and significant color and odor. Conventional water treatment processes struggle to achieve effective degradation. In this study, an ultrafine nanobubble technology was employed for treatment validation; the influent COD reached 2,858.0 mg/L, and after three hours of treatment, the COD removal rate attained 40%, effectively reducing the organic load.

Ultrafine nanobubbles, with their extremely small particle size and exceptionally large specific surface area, dramatically enhance ozone mass transfer and dissolution efficiency, significantly improving ozone utilization and strengthening the oxidative degradation of recalcitrant organic compounds. This process simultaneously achieves powerful decolorization and deodorization, transforming dark brown, turbid wastewater into a progressively clearer effluent, thereby effectively addressing the challenges of treating high‑strength leachate and serving as an efficient pretreatment solution for landfill leachate.
